Why Your Donations Matter
A Narrow Escape
Summerlands underwent a period of dereliction in the 1970's and only narrowly escaped serious damage. For a period of around 6 years she lay empty with water ingress and fallen ceilings as a result
This must never happen again, especially as she is now 80% restored, to a high quality and to the original period finishes
The restoration is ongoing, and will continue throughout the life of Summerlands by means of our yearly maintenance schedule. The next custodian will also have the responsibility of nurturing and protecting Summerlands against the elements and wages of time
The restoration has taken 12 years thus far and has been comprehensive, diligent and considered. A series of Before & After images can be seen on this website.
Why Summerlands Matters
Historic country houses like Summerlands convey a vital sense of place and beauty, enhancing well-being and promoting education and understanding of Britain’s heritage. Many have played a significant role in national and regional history and continue to inspire new generations and new audiences. However, many responsible charitable and individual owners are simply unable to cover all the costs of works on these complex historic buildings
Summerlands Hall Ltd has been registered at Companies House to receive donations and to service the ongoing maintenance of this important architectural masterpiece
Your Importance
Your kind donations play a key role in securing the future Summerlands as one of Britain’s historic country houses by providing funding for repair and conservation where it is most urgently needed.
Donated funds contribute towards a wide variety of work, from repairing roofs to the rescue of hidden or damaged features, historic gateways, garden terraces, ornate plasterwork, ornate stonework and glasshouses.
Our main aim, with your help, to support the preservation the architectural importance of Summerlands together with her gardens and grounds, and to continue with the restoration and conservation works
